About us
An eco-friendly, sustainable hotel
We want you to enjoy the small pleasures of healthy living and the charm of l'Empordà throughout your stay. We are in the historic center of Palafrugell, in a 17th century house that has been renovated following the principles of healthy and sustainable architecture, to naturally combine traditional charm with well-being and comfort. We have paid careful attention to every last detail of the hotel so that, just by entering, you feel really good, and eager to have the experience that you have come here looking for.
We love to imagine everything that the walls of this building have experienced over the course of more than three centuries of history. Its wide walls, floors and beams, the terrace... have been the setting for the daily life of the different members of the Mascort family, with different professions: shoemakers, notaries, a mayor, a clergyman and, at the end of the 18th century, apothecaries. In 1789, the house came to host a pharmacy, a family business that continued until well into the 20th century. And, to maintain its essence, today in that same space is where you will find the Can Mascort Natural Products Apothecary.
Can Mascort has been restored following the philosophy of sustainable, healthy architecture, according to the criteria of Bio-construction: sustainable facilities, energy efficiency, eco-friendly materials, and harmonised spaces that are free of radiation. This renovation has preserved its essence, while transforming it into the hotel that it is today.
Can Mascort comes to life in a building with large spaces where we can share our passion for healthy living with travellers and the people of the region. We've chosen an existing structure, since it is more sustainable to restore a building than to create a new one. The energy cost of the renovation is minimal; since the building is over 300 years old, this cost is more than amortised.
L'Emporda is a land of artists, of nature lovers, of farmers who pamper their land and their products, of vineyards set among Mediterranean forests, of fishermen who go to sea at dawn and of small merchants who enjoy the coastal air all year round. It is also a refuge for people who seek to connect with everything that characterises it, to reconnect with themselves. Not only in the summer, but all year round. Can Mascort seeks to value each of the values that make this land different, so that our guests can enjoy what makes it unique.
